Dolpo Circuit Trek

Upper Dolpo is an unspoiled and remote trekking destination in far-west Nepal between the Tibetan plateau and the Dhaulagiri mountain range. The Dolpo district was only opened up to foreign visitors in 1989. On the Upper Dolpo Circuit trek you will encounter mystical beauty, rich Tibetan culture, beautiful, ancient monasteries and the nomadic lifestyle. Because it is a restricted trekking area, a special trekking permit is required. The permit cost is U.S. $500 for 10 days for person and then $50 per day per person for each additional day.

Because of the remoteness, many high passes and low levels of development in this district, very few people visit this region. The spectacular landscape, mesmerizing Shey Phoksundo Lake, traditional Tibetan settlements and their culture, mountain views, wildlife and ancient Buddhist monasteries are the main attractions.

The trek begins in Juphal and ends in either Juphal or Jomsom. To reach to Juphal, we have to fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then on to Juphal.
