Honey Hunting Trip in Nepal

Honey hunting is an age-old traditional practice in Nepal. The country is very rich in honeybee diversity and there are at least five different honeybee species in different parts of the country. These honeybees play a vital role in pollinating mountain crops and wild flora.

Honey hunting is a tradition that is hundreds of years and the practices are passed from one generation to the next. The basic method of lighting a smoking fire under the bee hives to drive the bees from the combs appears to be universal. However, cultural and spiritual practices carried out prior to hunting honey are quite different from community to community.

Our honey hunting trip in Nepal is unique and extraordinary. This trip is designed for those who are seeking a wilderness experience and want to be off the main trekking routes. The trip offers the thrilling action of honey hunting, natural beauty, pretty Gurung villages and stunning views below the towering mountains of Annapurna II, IV and Lamjung Himal. The isolated traditional Gurung villages, their culture and daily life style, will definitely win your heart.

This honey hunting trip begins from Kathmandu. We travel to Ghalegaon by jeep. Ghalegaon is located on a hilltop which provides spectacular mountains views. Here you will experience the hospitality of the Gurung people and a cultural show. From there we head to Bhujung village, which is one of the largest villages in the area with more than 400 households. Bhujung will be our base for the exciting honey hunting excursions.
