The Kapan/ Nagi Gompa day hike is one of the pleasant one-day hiking trips in the northern Kathmandu valley, offering a great walking experience as well as excellent views of local villages and the Kathmandu valley. The fairly easy trail goes through beautiful pine forests and meadows along the ridge. Nagi Gompa is located in a quiet location at the height of 2563m in a protected area of Shivapuri National Park. This great nunnery gompa is home to more than 100 Buddhist nuns, where they practice their spiritual lessons and meditation.

Trip Itinerary

Day-1: Departure from your Hotel 7:30 AM, drive by Car, Van, or Bus takes about 30m to Kapan. The hike begins from near Kapan Gompa next to the Nepal police Post. The fairly level trail goes through the pine forest about 20 minutes to a small village and from there we climb uphill 30-45 minutes through the beautiful pine forest to the first ridge. The gradual trail leads us along the ridge. The walk is very enjoyable and has wonderful views on both sides, all the way to near Tare Bhir (Tamang village) village. After resting and having Lunch there we continue to ascent to Nagi Gompa. On a clear day, we can see absolutely spectacular view of the Kathmandu Valley from almost every corner. After visiting the nunnery monastery, we descend to Budhanilkantha and drive to Kathmandu.
