Manaslu Trekking

The Manaslu trekking region provides the ultimate hiking experience. Located about 100 kilometers north-west of the capital city of Kathmandu, the Manaslu trekking region has only been open to foreigners from 1992. The area remains restricted and foreigners require a special trekking permit to gain entry to the region. Manaslu is one of the classic yet unspoilt trekking regions in the Nepal Himalaya.

The Manaslu region features quiet trails and unique villages, together with spectacular scenery and remarkably rich bio-diversity. The mix of traditional culture, views of the majestic Himalayan ranges, glaciers, lakes, fascinating flora and fauna combine to make it an increasingly popular trekking destination.

The trek starts from the town of Arughat and ascends the impressive gorge of the Budhi Gandaki, passing through picturesque villages perched on steep valley sides, to reach the Tibetan world beyond the village of Ghap. Where the valley starts to open out there are panoramic views of snow-capped mountains. Few travelers penetrate this high and mysterious valley which once had important trading links with Tibet. You have the feeling of entering a secret Buddhist world of monasteries, stone-carved  mani walls, stupas and prayer flags. The scenery becomes even more impressive as we climb up into the alpine environment on the approach to the Larkya La (5160m), with big peaks on all sides. Beyond the Larkya La, the trail descents down into the heavily forested valley of the Marsyangdi River, where we follow the river downstream underneath the giants of the Annapurna range until we meet the road.
