Our day tour starts early morning driving to Pharping, is one of the popular pilgrimage and historic sites for Buddhists and an ancient renowned town. It is located approximately 22km south from the main city of Kathmandu. Pharping is a culturally prosperous and thriving Newar town identified with the sacred site of Hinduism and Buddhism. Buddhist people believe Padmasambhava (also known as Guru Rinpoche who introduced Buddhism in Tibet in 8th century) traveled through Pharping and did meditation and received his tantric weapon to fight against Bon (the indigenous religion of Tibet). Today Pharping is becoming an even more popular pilgrimage site and the number of monasteries surrounding it is increasing day by day. You can do a short hike up the hill and have a wonderful view of the valley.
On the way to Kirtipur we stop at Chobhar, the famous gorge, just 8km south west of Kathmandu. The narrow cut in the hills is fabled to have been made by Lord Manjushree to drain the lake which once covered the valley. There is a beautiful pond on the trail called Taudaha and just 2km away is the head of Chobhar gorge.
Kirtipur (“City of Glory”) is located on top of the hill about 5km south of Kathmandu city. This historical and traditional city provides a commanding view panoramic of Kathmandu valley and as well as the majestic Himalayas. Kirtipur is one of the medieval kingdoms inside the Kathmandu Valley. Kirtipur, with Nepal's largest and oldest Tribhuvan University, is also an important learning center of Nepal. This historic town has many interesting sights to see such as Bagh Bhairab temple, is one of the most popular temples dedicated to the deity Bhairab (a manifestation of Shiva) in the form of a tiger, Uma Maheshwor temple (locally, Kwacho Dega) is one of the important heritage sites of Kirtipur. This pagoda-style, three-storied temple is situated at the highest point (1414 m) of Kirtipur. A Theravada Buddhist monastery built in traditional Thai architectural style, is situated near the entrance to the city where one can observe shrines and other temples, old houses, people in traditional dress working on ancient looms which are a major attraction.
