Why Choose the Sanga Nagarkot Day Hike?

The Sanga Nagarkot Day Hike is one of the best short hikes near Kathmandu, starting from Sanga Bhanjyang in the southeast of the valley. This scenic day hike offers a perfect mix of nature, culture, and panoramic viewpoints, making it an excellent escape from the city.

What Can You See During the Sanga Nagarkot Hike?

During this rewarding hike, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Kathmandu and Banepa valleys while passing through traditional villages and terraced farmlands. Along the route, you can visit several cultural and religious sites, including Saraswati Temple, Latarambeshwar Mahadev Temple, Palanchowki Bhagwati Temple, and Indrasheva Temple. At Nala Bhanjyang, you can explore the impressive Dhakpe Sedrupling Buddhist Monastery before continuing through a peaceful pine forest to Dulal Village.

What Is the Sanga Nagarkot Day Hike Route?

From Dulal Village, the trail ascends gradually via Kalmasi to Nagarkot Viewpoint (2,175 m). This popular viewpoint offers stunning Himalayan panoramas, stretching from Manaslu in the west to Mount Everest in the east, along with wide views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

When Is the Best Time for the Sanga Nagarkot Day Hike?

The hike can be done year-round, but the best time is from late September to May. Autumn offers clear skies and excellent mountain views, winter brings cool and comfortable conditions, and spring adds vibrant rhododendrons and wildflowers. The monsoon season (June to August) makes the trail slippery and less ideal.
