Why Choose the Phulchowki Day Hike?

Phulchowki Hill (2,782 m) is the highest hill on the southern side of the Kathmandu Valley. If you are looking to escape the city noise and enjoy a refreshing nature adventure, the Phulchowki Day Hike is an excellent choice. This rewarding one-day hike offers beautiful views of the Kathmandu Valley and a wide Himalayan panorama stretching from Annapurna in the west to the Gaurishankar and Dudhkunda ranges in the east, including Mount Everest.

What Is the Best Route for the Phulchowki Day Hike?

The Phulchowki Day Hike begins at Godawari, about 15 km from the center of Kathmandu. At the base of Phulchowki Danda, you can visit the beautiful Bhairab Temple and the nine traditional water spouts before starting the hike. From here, the trail gradually climbs through a dense subtropical forest.

As you walk through the peaceful forest, you may hear many birds and even spot wildlife such as wild boar, deer, monkeys, leopards, and martens, which are found in this area. This also makes Phulchowki a wonderful destination for birdwatchers. At the summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree view along with the sacred Phulchowki Mai Temple, an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. The top rewards hikers with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains, surrounding hills, and Kathmandu Valley. After enjoying the summit, you return to Godawari by following the same trail.

When Is the Best Time for the Phulchowki Day Hiking?

The best time for the Phulchowki Day Hike is from October to May, when the weather is usually clear and pleasant. Spring is especially beautiful with blooming rhododendrons and wildflowers along the trail. It is best to avoid the monsoon season from June to August, as the path can become slippery and overgrown.
