What Makes the Mardi Himal Trek a Hidden Gem in Nepal?
Mardi Himal Trekking is a true hidden gem in the Annapurna region, set on the southern slopes of the Annapurna Himalayan range, just east of the Annapurna Base Camp trail. Nestled beneath the iconic Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Mardi Himal, this short yet scenic trek offers a peaceful escape from the busier trekking routes.
Perfect for most trekkers, the journey combines breathtaking Himalayan views, deep valleys, and rich cultural experiences. Along the trail, you pass through traditional villages inhabited by Gurung, Tamang, Newar, and Brahmin communities, where you can experience authentic mountain life, warm hospitality, and unique local traditions.
Mardi Himal Trek Itinerary Highlights
Opened to trekkers in 2012, the journey begins with a short and scenic drive from Pokhara to Kande, the starting point of the trek. The trail then winds through lush forests, grazing fields, and diverse natural landscapes on the way to Deurali.
As you gradually ascend through Low Camp (3,400m) and High Camp (4,100m), the surroundings become more dramatic, offering closer and more impressive views of the Annapurna range with every step.
Mardi Himal Base Camp: A Stunning Himalayan Viewpoint
The highlight of the trek is reaching Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m), where you stand face-to-face with the magnificent Mt. Machhapuchhre. From here, enjoy panoramic views of Mardi Himal, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I, Gangapurna, and Annapurna III, creating one of the most unmatched Himalayan panoramas.
How Does the Trek End?
The return trail descends to Siding Village (1,750m), a traditional settlement where you can experience local culture and genuine hospitality. The journey then concludes with a scenic drive back to Pokhara.
