A Hidden Gem in the Annapurna Region
The Annapurna Mulde Peak Trekking is an exciting extension of the classic Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek in Annapurna Area, offering an unforgettable hiking experience. This short trek provides breathtaking views of the majestic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges from both Mulde Peak (3637m) and Poon Hill (3193m). A true highlight of this journey is the opportunity to trek through charming traditional settlements of the Gurung and Magar ethnic groups, explore their terraced farmlands, and immerse yourself in their fascinating local culture and customs.
Your Journey Begins
The Annapurna Mulde Peak Trek kicks off from the popular tourist city of Pokhara. From there, enjoy a scenic two-hour drive to Tirkhedhunga. The trail then follows the well-known Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking route, taking you through Ulleri, a typical Magar village, and Banthati. A gentle uphill path leads you to Nangethati, winding through peaceful oak and rhododendron forests, and crossing beautiful streams and canyons. Once you arrive at the famous Ghorepani village, wake up early the next morning for a climb to the renowned viewpoint of Poon Hill. From here, you’ll witness a tremendous panorama of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu mountains, perfectly complemented by a stunning sunrise.
Discovering Mulde Peak: An Off-the-Beaten-Path Adventure
After soaking in the views from Poon Hill, your adventure continues eastward with a steep ascent to Thapla Danda. As you trek beneath rhododendron and bamboo forests, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of the Kaligandaki Valley and the Dhaulagiri mountain range from Thapla Danda. Following the Thapla Danda ridge, enjoy a pleasant trek through forests of rhododendron, pine, and bamboo, leading to a short descent to Deurali.
Here, you’ll leave the popular Poon Hill trek route and venture into an alpine forest and summer grazing zone, ascending to the summit of Mulde Peak (3637m). This recently opened, off-the-beaten-track route sees very few trekkers, making it a true wilderness experience. While the path to Mulde Peak is slightly narrow and steep, posing a bit of a challenge, your hard work will be truly rewarded. The trail is much less crowded, offering a profound sense of wilderness and magnificent, breathtaking views from the top of Mulde Peak. This trek offers truly spectacular vistas of mountains, both the Kaligandaki and Modi Khola valleys, and three prominent mountain ranges: Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu. As the morning and evening sun rays touch these mountains and valleys, they illuminate the entire environment, creating an amazing spectacle. Mulde Peak is truly a hidden gem in the Annapurna Region.
Relax and Rejuvenate: Hot Springs of Jhinu Danda
Your return journey from Annapurna Mulde Peak takes you via Tadapani to Jhinu Danda. A short walk will lead you near the Modi Khola River bank, where you can soak in natural hot springs. This well-deserved respite after a week-long trek offers a luxurious and relaxing experience. The warm, mineral-rich water is perfect for muscle relaxation and a good recovery. After a wonderful day of relaxation in Jhinu Danda, you’ll drive back to Pokhara, concluding your unforgettable Annapurna Mulde Peak Trekking adventure.
