This exceptional journey in the Annapurna Region combines the most well-known Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) with the tranquil and less-traveled Khopra Ridge, offering a perfect balance of classic Himalayan highlights and peaceful wilderness. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking mountain views, rich cultural encounters, and serene forest trails far from the crowds.
What You’ll Experience
This unforgettable trekking adventure takes you through vibrant Rhododendron forests, “Nepal’s national flower,” along with Pine and Oak woodlands. As you move through the landscape, you’ll pass traditional Gurung and Magar villages, terraced farmlands, and scenic valleys shaped by mountain rivers.
Throughout the trek, you’ll witness spectacular sunrises and sunsets over towering peaks such as Mt. Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri. Alongside dramatic Himalayan scenery, you’ll enjoy natural hot springs, spiritual sites, and warm interactions with friendly locals. From alpine glaciers to peaceful valleys, every day reveals a new side of the Annapurna region.
Highlights of the Annapurna Base Camp & Khopra Danda Trek Itinerary
Your adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a short drive to Dhampus, the starting point of the trek. The trail gradually ascends through Pothana and Bhichok Deurali, offering a comfortable introduction to the journey.
Continuing onward, you reach Jhinu Danda, where the tranquil surroundings and lively village life provide a rewarding rest. Here, the natural hot springs offer soothing relaxation while overlooking the Modi Khola valley and the majestic Annapurna range, one of the trek’s early highlights.
Reaching Annapurna Base Camp
From Jhinu Danda, the trail leads deeper into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. Passing through the picturesque Gurung village of Chhomrong, you’re rewarded with stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre.
Beyond Chhomrong, the landscape changes dramatically as you trek through dense, moss-covered forests via Sinuwa, Bamboo, and Deurali. Although the ascent becomes more demanding, the reward is extraordinary. Reaching Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) is a truly unforgettable moment. Surrounded by a natural amphitheater of snow-capped giants, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and more—the golden hues of sunrise and sunset create a magical Himalayan experience.
Toward the Peaceful Khopra Ridge
Instead of returning the same way, the route turns toward the quieter Khopra Danda. The climb to Tadapani is challenging but offers sweeping panoramic views of the Annapurna range and deep valleys below.
From Tadapani, the trail winds through thick Rhododendron, Pine, and Oak forests toward Dobato. A highlight here is the optional hike to Mulde Peak, where both sunrise and sunset reveal incredible vistas of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu ranges, a true hidden gem of the Annapurna Region Trek.
Final Stretch and Well-Deserved Relaxation
The journey continues through Sistibung before a rewarding ascent to Khopra Danda, known for its dramatic views over the Kali Gandaki Gorge and surrounding peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche, and Annapurna South.
Descending to the charming Magar village of Paudar, you’ll experience authentic rural life before reaching Tatopani, where the famous natural hot springs provide the perfect place to relax and recover. A scenic drive back to Pokhara concludes this remarkable Annapurna trekking adventure.
