Climb the Remote Himlung Himal in Nepal
The Himlung Expedition is one of Nepal’s most exciting 7,000-meter climbing adventures, offering spectacular Himalayan scenery, vibrant Tibetan culture, and a challenging high-altitude mountaineering experience. Standing at 7,126 meters, Himlung Himal lies in the remote Manaslu and Nar Phu Region near the Tibetan border, north of the Annapurna Himalayan Range.
Known as a less-crowded and moderately technical Himalayan peak, Himlung Himal is an excellent choice for climbers preparing for future 8,000-meter expeditions or those who enjoy alpine ascents.
Wonderful Trek Through the Nar Phu Valley
The journey begins with a scenic and exciting drive from Kathmandu to Koto via the Annapurna Circuit route. From Koto, the trail enters the remote Nar and Phu valleys, passing through narrow gorges, lush pine, rhododendron, and bamboo forests, suspension bridges, traditional Tibetan-influenced villages, and glaciers.
Along the route, climbers get the opportunity to visit ancient monasteries, mani walls, colorful prayer flags, and experience the untouched culture of the Tibetan community. The trek also rewards you with magnificent views of Kangaru Himal, Nemjung, Manaslu, Ratna Chuli, Lamjung Himal, and many other snow-capped peaks.
Technical Climbing Adventure to Himlung Summit
Himlung Base Camp is located at approximately 4,850 meters. Proper acclimatization is essential before ascending through the three higher camps toward the summit. The climb involves glacier travel, steep icy sections, and demanding alpine terrain, requiring good physical fitness and previous mountaineering experience. A successful summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna Range, Manaslu, the Tibetan Plateau, and surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Best Time for the Himlung Expedition
Spring and autumn are considered the best seasons for the Himlung Expedition because of the comparatively stable weather, clear skies, and favorable climbing conditions.
